Celebrating National Eat Outside Day with a Flight-Friendly Menu

The DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase might still be a few months away… but it’s never too early to start planning a tasty menu for the big weekend.

In honor of National Eat Outside Day on August 31st, we’re taking a look at some of the yummiest additions to your trip—whether you need fuel for the flight or treats for effortless underwing camping. Just read on!

We couldn’t highlight delicious outdoor eats without including the king of them all… s’mores, that is! The gooey, chocolatey campfire treat has long been a favorite for easy snacking, surrounded by nature. S’mores are the quintessential social treat, too, and if you bring some along for underwing camping you’re sure to make a few new friends in the process!

Trail mix

For easy sustenance on board or off, trail mix is a camper’s best friend. The best part about this handy treat is that it can be made at home (with ingredients you probably already have on hand) and slipped into a sandwich bag on your way out the door. Try combining salty and sweet flavors like pretzels with raisins, or cashews with your favorite chocolatey candies.

When you want a satisfying meal, sans any mess or silverware, opt for kebabs! The originally meat-based dish has evolved to include fruity variations, so you can arrange strawberries and grapes on a skewer as easily as you could chicken or beef. Either way is sure to be delicious!

Pasta salad

You won’t need a microwave or campfire for this flavorful option… just prepare an easy pasta salad and refrigerate it before your flight. Combine hearty options like whole-wheat pasta with spinach, tomatoes, and your favorite dressing for a nutrient-packed fuel to your outdoor adventures.

No-bake bars

Another option that requires no heat? No-bake granola bars! There are so many great variations to enjoy—you can’t go wrong with a combination like peanut butter, chocolate chips, oats and nuts! Simply add the ingredients to a baking dish and pop it into the fridge, cooling overnight before your trip. Cut into bar shapes and enjoy on your flight or while walking around the showcase for an easy handheld option!

Delicious and easy to enjoy, these picks are sure to make your showcase weekend a little sweeter.
